I recently started taking a beginner silversmithing class at the Wilmslow Guild and am enjoying it very much. It is challenging, as there are many new skills to learn or relearn. These techniques are quite different from the beading and stone work that I have been doing these past few years. I have added a new tab on the website 'silversmithing' where I have begun to post my work. Although it is very basic at the moment, watch this space as I spend more time and practice what I am learning. I am looking forward to adding more pieces as I acquire new techniques. My first introduction to silversmithing was when I was in high school in Syosset, NY where I made the ring and black stone pendant pictured. During my university years, I took another silver jewellery class as an elective when I was studying fashion marketing at FIT in Manhattan. I made the tri-coloured pendant pictured. Sadly over the years the other things that I made have gotten lost in moves. I am still doing the bead and stone work that I have been creating these past years, and am looking for creative ways to bring these skills into my latest efforts on the jewellry bench. I supplement the formal classes that I attend with watching youtube videos, other crafter's posts, professional silversmith suppliers websites and catalogues and reading books. There is a section at the end of the blog titled "Resources' where I am sharing useful links for anyone who may be interested in jewellry and silversmithing.
